The Scratch Education Collaborative (SEC) is an initiative that supports and engages participating organizations from around the world in a two-year, collaborative cohort experience to strengthen their organization’s commitment to, and implementation of, equitable creative computing.
SEC participants engage in a series of collaborative learning experiences that are co-developed and co-facilitated by Scratch and SEC partner organizations as they work to create a self-sustaining community of practice and establish models for equity-centered creative computing resources.
We, at Sunyani Senior High School, are very blessed to have been selected among the over 80 organizations
around the world to take part in the 2022-2024 cohort. Sunyani Senior High School is the only organization in Ghana to be part of the SEC 2022-2024 Cohort and the first in Ghana to achieve this feat.

SEC Vision
Increase access and eliminate gaps that have limited creative computing opportunities for educators and students in traditionally underrepresented communities
Realign the resources of the Scratch Foundation toward a greater focus on serving marginalized communities and local organizations that support them with creative computing opportunities
Create a self-sustaining network and models for equity-centered creative computing resources and learning experiences
We at Sunyani Senior High School share the same vision as the Scratch Foundation because we support our communities with our scarce resources to enable our kids to get access to creative coding.
The Launch
The SEC was launched in a grand style at Sunyani Senior High School. We invited some dignitaries and the media to cover the event. Students and teachers from SUSEC Model school were invited to brace the occasion. The GNA, GBC, and other local media were also invited.
The Assistant Headmaster in charge of administration, Mr. Kwadwo Oppong-Ansu who is also a member of the Scratch team in the school entreated students to take STEM seriously as the future depends on it.
During the program, the SEC facilitator for SUSEC, Mr. Gabriel Kwadwo Afram emplored Ghanaians to be creative in technology usage. Read the entire article here.
Some of the targets we have set are to use scratch to help young kids become creative coders. To do this we have set out to do the following; Coding for the SDGs, where our students are gonna identify problems in their communities based on the SDG goals and develop a creative solution to the problem using Scratch. Scratch on wheels, we would go to a local community where it is difficult for the kids to have access to creative coding because they are marginalized, and introduce creative coding to them, the teachers would be trained to be able to help teach the kids creative coding using scratch. Teachers would be trained in creative coding, so that they may in turn teach their students. We have since started a Scratch Professional Learning Community where teachers come together for collaboration. You may join the group here. All parents are invited to bring their wards to join our weekend hour of code with scratch classes. Our various programs would also be updated on this page, watch out!
